I believe that words are fun and that everyone should have the chance to appreciate the beauty of the written form. That is why I undertook Specialist Literacy Training with Dyslexia Action, and am fully qualified to teach lessons and assess for Dyslexic tendencies.
What is dyslexia? See www.dyslexiaaction.org.uk for more info. Any adult or child of any age or ability, whether you enjoy reading or writing or not, can be dyslexic. It is not a ‘middle class disease’ or laziness.
I also do CPD in schools, whether whole school dyslexia training, select staff INSET afternoons or can support your staff in the classroom with how to identify and help dyslexic pupils. This often crosses over into other SpLDs such as dyspraxia, ADHD, Autism etc. Contact me on readhelp(at)yahoo.co.uk for more information.
I would like to say a big thank you for all the help you gave to my son Christopher when he was really struggling with his reading and writing. We had an inkling that he could be dyslexic and were getting minimal support from his primary school who didn’t pick anything up until year 5!! When you started helping him with this reading he really improved and when he started in Year 7 at secondary school and we gave them a copy of the assessment you did they were extremely helpful and have given him as much support as they can with LSA’s and the use of tools. I am really proud of how much he has come along and his confidence is growing all the time. He has had an excellent year and without your help he wouldn’t be where he is now.
Thank you very much.
Karen
Thank you, Karen, for your kind words. I am so pleased Chris is continuing to do well, and I really enjoy the updates. It was so lovely seeing his confidence increase and to see him start to take ownership of his learning, therefore enjoying it. As I say, words are fun!
Take care,
Felicity
